The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited established its first branch in Sri Lanka on 1 July 1892, just 27 years after its first offices were established in Hong Kong and Shanghai. In addition credit card customers can make bill payments through all Sri Lanka Post Offices as well as branches of Cargills; Lanka Bell; Singer; Abans and Commercial Bank. Global Premier clients can avail themselves of the full Premier benefits at all branches or at our Premier Centre. For Corporate clients we offer working capital and loan facilities, trade finance and cash management solutions utilising our global internet banking system - HSBCnet; money market and foreign exchange services and investment banking services such as project and export finance, debt capital markets and corporate finance.

As an innovative bank, HSBC has led the Sri Lankan banking industry into the electronic age with the installation of the nation's first online automated teller machine (ATM), the first bank to computerise its operations and the first to establish an Internet Payment Portal. Furthermore, the introduction of phonebanking, internet banking and the Groupís global electronic banking platforms such as, HSBCnet have greatly enhanced the service we deliver to our customers.

HSBC is also the undisputed leader in the credit cards market in Sri Lanka with nearly 300,000 cards. Operating fifteen branches with a staff of over 1,800 HSBC Sri Lanka has been a financial bulwark in both the good times and the bad. In August 2005, we also increased our capital by a further Rs.3 billion, making HSBC the largest foreign bank and fifth largest private bank in the country, amply demonstrating our strong commitment to Sri Lanka.
